Love London 2015 Award for Lexi!
Our lovely local cinema, The Lexi were the winner in this year’s Time Out readers poll.
Many users of Queen’s Park Gardens voted for the Lexi and we would like to offer our congratulations, albeit belatedly.
It is a wonderful cinema to enjoy films and other events but if you do a couple of hours gardening with us, we’ll give you time credits that will entitle you to see a film for free!
Sleepover at Queen’s Park Library!
On Friday, 4th December, Queen’s Park Library will host its first ever Brave the Dark night!
It will be an immersive evening where you’ll enter another world on a quest to find clues and solve mysteries. The project is being run by staff from several Westminster libraries in partnership with winning theatre producers, Nimble Fish.
There will be two events: the first will be a family event for children aged 7 – 9 and their parents or carers, running from 7pm to 8pm. Each child will need to be accompanied by an adult and there are 20 places available, children and adults combined.
The second event is for children aged 10 – 12 and will start at 8:30pm. The sleepover will run until the following morning. There are places for 20 children who will not be accompanied by parents or carers. Children should come dressed for a sleepover and bring sleeping bags, pillows and anything else that might make them comfy. There will be a midnight feast!
Sleepover participants will be managed by library staff and Nimble Fish practitioners who are fully DBS checked. Parent or carers will need to collect their children between 7:30am and 8am the following morning.
Advance booking is essential for both events. Admission to both Brave the Dark sessions is free, on a first come, first served basis. Please express your interest no later than 30th November by calling 020 7641 6200 and asking for Queen’s Park Library or you can email Lucy Gill at the library.
This is a wonderful new initiative for the younger members of our community. It was brainstormed with local children last month and will include many of the wonderful ideas and suggestions they came up with.
Cocodelic – Soul Food
Have you tried Cocodelic lately? It is just opposite St John’s Church on Kilburn Lane.
You have to get there in good time if you want a table but it’s a fun place to have lunch or a snack. This and every other Sunday they’ll be doing a special Jamaican roast.
They have a great selection of cakes too.

Fireworks in Queen’s Park Gardens
The Queen’s Park Community Council organised another wonderful firework display in the park on Guy Fawkes night. A rainy day gave way to a couple of dry hours, just in time.

Winter Fair in Maida Vale Library
There’s a Winter Fayre in Maida Vale Library with a variety of items for sale.
I know that Moira from Made in Maida Vale will be there selling her wonderful jams and chutneys, as will Sue from Caird Crafts selling greetings cards made from photos taken around Queen’s Park Gardens and the canal.

Robinson Wilson Solicitors, based at The Beethoven Centre, are running free advice sessions on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month between 5pm and 7pm, funded by the Queen’s Park Community Council.

Firework Display 2015
Once again, a wonderful firework display has been organised for Queen’s Park Gardens.
The gates will be open from 5:30 and there are parking restrictions in Third Avenue and Ilbert Street. The fireworks begin at 6pm.
If you have Time Credits, you can gain entry to the special V.I.P. area. Two credits per person means you can join the Community Champions for a special view.
Donald Macauley
Local Artist
Over the last few months, we have been very privileged to welcome local artist, Donald Macauley into the Wildlife Area as he has painted this wonderful view of the London Plane with the mound and Ilbert Street in the background. The colours from my camera do not do this justice!
Donald grew up in East Anglia during the 1950s where the wild flowers among the corn, clouds of butterflies, and largely quiet, safe roads were his playground.
He has been painting since he was 16 and studied art at Reading University. However, it is only in his early retirement, he has found the time to fully embrace his talent.
He has been living in the Queen’s Park estate since 1984 and we are lucky to have him among us.

Earn Time Credits at the Firework Display
Would you like to help your community?
If so, why don’t you register to become a volunteer with Queen’s Park Community Council and earn Time Credits?
The Council hosts a number of events for benefit of Queen’s Park residents such as the Queen’s Park summer festival, winter festival and fireworks night, as well as creating and delivering the Queen’s Park Voice.
The fireworks night takes place next Thursday (5th November) in Queen’s Park Gardens and the Council is looking for people to help on the night. We are also planning the Council’s first winter festival for December.
