First Seed Sowing of the Season

[AFG_gallery id=’33’]

It is very satisfying to sow seed, knowing we can watch it grow over the coming weeks.

We finished clearing the grass from the farthest corner of the meadow and seeded the area marked off with the logs.

Thank you to everyone who came along. We’re having another session on 16th April.

If you want to join out next session, make sure you’re on our mailing list, we’ll send a reminder. Please check our tweets and Facebook as well!

Everyone is welcome – for as little or as long as you would like.    You’ll need to wear suitable clothing and boots or shoes for the outdoors.

We will provide all the tools, some guidance, and a sweet snack for break-time.   You will also earn time credits for every hour worked.  You can spend these all over London, including some local activities. More information here.

Please note we are in the middle of having works done to repair our stag beetle loggery, so take care around the willow dome. Thank you to Quinn London for this. It is well protected and will be completed very soon.

For those of you who feel like something more energetic, there is a free bootcamp class in the park on Tuesday and  Saturday at 10am, run by OurParks.  For more details, or to sign up (you need to book) look here.

We had a fantastic turnout in the lovely weather this Saturday.

Our main purpose was to prepare the meadow for sowing the new seeds but we extended that to preparing the roof terrace of the bug hotel as well!

Thank you to everyone who came along.

Our next session will be 9th April, 2016 but if you’re on our mailing list, we’ll send a reminder. Please check our tweets and Facebook as well!

Mozart Winners!

Congratulations to everyone who is taking part in the two year “In it to Win it” scheme from Westminster Council.

The Mozart Estate has already reached their first target and earned £1,000 to spend on improving the local community.

There will soon be an opportunity for residents to vote for how they would like to spend the money.

Mozart is among the first six estates in the borough to have reached their first target by improving their recycling habits since September.

First Spring Session of 2016

We had a really good session on Saturday and the weather was very kind to us.

We trimmed back the dogwood and hazel, collected up the last of the fallen leaves but the biggest task was to prepare the meadow for sowing the new seeds.

Our next big session will be 9th April, 2016 but if you’re on our mailing list, we may let you know about some ad-hoc sessions before then.

Everyone is welcome – for as little or as long as you would like.    You’ll need to wear suitable clothing and boots or shoes for the outdoors.

Paid Internship Gardening Opportunity

The Energy Garden programme have a project to transform 50 London Overground stations into community-led gardens.  Each garden will be unique to the people and to the area, with the stations transformed into beautiful, green and ecologically rich spaces. Large-scale off-site solar arrays will also be established where surplus energy can be sold to generate a steady revenue stream to support the long term maintenance of the gardens and provide a return to investors. The Energy Garden project is being delivered by Repowering London and Groundwork London in partnership with Transport for London and funded by Players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
As part of this project we are offering an exciting opportunity for young and unemployed people (16-24year olds) to join a paid internship programme where interns will learn new and practical skills in renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, green gardening and community development.  The internship will comprise ten 5-hour sessions including classroom-based learning, site visits, events and practical lessons.  There will also be an opportunity for some interns to secure relevant paid work as part of a six-month employment scheme.

Please pass this information to anyone who might be able to make use of this wonderful opportunity.
