Have a voice in your Community

Don’t forget that QPCC elections are quickly approaching, and residents are coming forward to stand for the role of Community Councillor on 3 May.

Don’t worry, there’s still time to apply if you haven’t already. This is a great opportunity to represent your community and get a voice and a vote on what QPCC does for the next four years, including on how it spends its money. The next four years hold enormous promise, don’t miss out!

Queen’s Park Community Council has a Community Development Officer Lindsey Brown and a Chief Officer Kevin Harris, to get in touch with Lindsey or Kevin please email lindsey@nullqueensparkcommunitycouncil.gov.uk / chiefofficer@nullqueensparkcommunitycouncil.gov.uk

Tel: 020 8960 5644

You have until 6th April to apply to become a Community Councillor.

A Wonderful Saturday

We started the day with a lovely turnout of volunteers, whom we thank very much. Charlotte kindly donated more snowdrops which we’ve planted in hopes that they’ll be the first sign of next winter’s end.

Thanks must also go to Steve Mills of Continental Landscapes for arranging the loan of our very own Mr Rotavator’s favourite gardening tool.

Later on in the day, we joined the Queen’s Park Community Day in The New Avenues for an afternoon of fun and information.  Don’t forget how important it is to vote this May.

SNOW!

We realise the snow can make life difficult for some of our neighbours and testing for the birds but the park does look rather wonderful.

Please check on your neighbours to make sure they are warm and safe, and have enough food.

If all is well, take a look at these lovely photographs which Ray took earlier today.

10th March is Queen’s Park Community Day!

Come to QP Community Day between 2pm and 5:30pm on 10th March!

Find out how to get involved in your community by coming to The New Avenues at 3 – 7 Third Avenue, on the corner of Droop Street.

Hear about why local politics matters; find out about upcoming elections and take part in fun activities from all around the community.  You can learn more about the local voting from here.

The Friends of Queen’s Park Gardens will be there with a quiz and to answer questions but earlier in the day, we’ll be gardening so please join us in the park  on Saturday 10th March, any time between 10am & 1pm when we will be tidying all areas of the park.  More info here.

If you want to join in a small film about Queen’s Park, read more here.

Big Garden Birdwatch – the Results!

We had a wonderful turn-out for Monday’s RSPB Garden Birdwatch!  Thanks to everyone who attended.

Photo with thanks to Jill Forgham

The count was as follows:
2 Blackbirds
2 Blue tits
2 Carrion Crows
1 Goldfinch
1 Great tit
13 House sparrows
2 Magpies
1 Robin
1 Starling
5 Wood pigeons!
1 Wren

and 2 Squirrels – we know they’re not birds but the RSPB asked people to note other wild animals too!

Note: These are the maximum number of birds seen in one hour so, for instance the 5 wood pigeons were spotted together at the same time. This is a caveat used to ensure that the same individuals are not counted twice.

Big Garden Birdwatch Weekend 27 – 29 January 2018

Don’t forget the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch.  Check online to see what you can do in your own garden or join our RSPB friend on Monday afternoon to count in the park.  It’s free and fun!

“Around 500,000 people took part in the last birdwatch. That’s a LOT of birds counted! Now it’s your chance to join in, and count the wildlife that’s counting on you.”

Please contact us for more information about Monday.

Pathways refreshed

Thanks to a kind donation, we were able to refresh the wood chip around the educational zone and pathways in the Wildlife Area yesterday.

It was an Herculean effort given by all the volunteers: Ray, Alison, Simon, Claire & Astrid. The wood chips had to be carried from the Parks yard by Fourth Avenue as the truck was too big to get any closer.
