How Many Birds?

With great thanks to the vast knowledge of Andrew from the RSPB, we had a glorious bird count in the park for their Garden Birdwatch.

Our friends,  the Cheeky Rascals Child Minding Group were also counting in the Wildlife Area, where we began. The children were so energised and interested.

 

 

We were there for 11 mins & saw:
2 Blackbirds
2 Carrion Crows
2 Goldfinch
2 Great tit
4 Blue tits
1 House sparrows
1 Robin
5 Wood pigeons
1 Feral pigeons

 

We moved over to the Rose Garden for a more sustained session for the prescribed one hour, and this is the count submitted to the RSPB.

4 Blackbirds
5 Blue tits
2 Carrion Crows
5 Goldfinch
5 Great tit
15 House sparrows
1 Robin
8 Wood pigeons
8 Feral pigeons
1 Dunnock
1 Coal tit
1 Chaffinch
1 Common Gull
1 Grey Heron (flying overhead)

 

Why not consider becoming a member of the RSPB to support all the great work they do and learn much more?  Andrew came to us from the Central London group who hold a variety of meetings and talks.

FREE DOG WORKSHOP!

Dog workshops, classes for puppies & small dogs and one-on-one sessions all take place in the Dog Exercise Area of Queen’s Park Gardens.

Dog Owners are invited to come along with their dogs for help with training such as pulling on lead, recall and socialising.

The next session will be:

Happy New Year!   We wish you all a very healthy 2019.

Astrid and the team are gardening in January and we’d love you to join us.

We are planning gardening sessions on Saturday 12th and Saturday 19th January between 10am and 1pm weather permitting (if it is raining it will be cancelled at short notice).

A New Year’s Concert

Local Community

We are thrilled to announce that Father David, of St John’s Church on Kilburn Lane, has chosen three local causes (of which we are one!) to benefit from a free classical concert from The Vaska Quartet, to be held in the church. The programme includes, Haydn, Handel, Mozart, Chopin and Mendelssohn.

It is taking place on Saturday, 26th January 2019 at 6pm, for one hour.

The concert and refreshments are sponsored by The Village Vet and there will be a retiring collection to benefit:

Real Action, the literacy charity based In Queen’s Park
The Queen’s Park Gardens Community Sports Hub and
The Friends of Queen’s Park Gardens

Paths Refreshed

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday morning in the chilly breeze.

The main purpose was to spread the wood chip generously given by tree surgeons working locally and the magnificent effort certainly warmed everyone up!

The paths look great and are much nicer to walk on now.

 

 


         

Joyful Winter Fair

What an uplifting afternoon everyone had at this year’s Winter Fair, with thanks to the organisers.

The music was joyful and there was so much to do: children’s decoration making with the QPCC,  Ulla’s wreath making workshop and tasty food treats, not to mention the donkey rides and petting zoo.

Thank you to everyone who paid us a visit, tried our quiz and took some herbs.
