St John’s Music are holding a lunchtime recital tomorrow and continue with their programme of events, with an evening concert on 13th February from the Messages Quartet. More details here.

We’re thrilled to see that the Mozart Estate are in the top ten Westminster areas to have improved their recycling habits in the In It To Win It Scheme.

As we write this, they have ‘earned’ £ 719.17 towards their target of £ 1,000.  Residents need to think about what improvements they might like to spend this money on.

A Happy New Year to everyone!

This year, the Friends of Queen’s Park Gardens are working with Queen’s Park Library and the Beethoven Centre to make more use of your unwanted Christmas Cards.

Marks and Spencer work with the Woodland Trust to collect unwanted greetings cards. For every 1000 cards collected, they will fund the Woodland Trust to plant a tree in the UK. Read more here.

Obviously, you can put them in your usual recycling box or bags but we’re hoping you might like to help this cause. You can leave them in one of the bins which we have put  in the library and Beethoven Centre, knowing that you are helping to plant new trees.  We will empty those bins and take the cards to Marks & Spencer on behalf of the community. The deadline for leaving your cards is 22nd January, 2016.

If you had a real Christmas tree, as with previous years, Westminster & Veolia will be collecting them from a pen near the Ilbert Street park gate by Fourth Avenue between the  2nd and 15th January, 2016.  Please don’t leave them anywhere else in the streets. We are lucky to have this service so please use it responsibly.

On Wednesday 16th December the Ark Franklin School will visit St John’s for their Carol Service at 01.30pm.

The Ark Atwood Primary Academy are coming for their Carol Service on Thursday 17th December at 06.30pm

It was so successful last Sunday, that they’re doing it again this Sunday, 20th December.

The venue is St Luke’s Church in Fernhead Road at 6pm.

There is a lot happening around the Queen’s Park Avenues this month.

If you’re shopping along Harrow Road, why not pop a short way down Bravington Road to The Rainbow Family Centre Market Stall, from now until 18th December.

From noon on 5th December, St Thomas’s Church, just over the canal, are having a Christmas Bazaar.

Also on 5th December, the All Sing! Harrow Road Choir will perform at St John’s Church.  You can also catch them at Foyles, South Bank on Tuesday and at our very own Winter Fair on the 12th. More details here.

There is also a Christmas Market at Ark Atwood Primary School on the 5th December.

On the 9th December, The Beethoven Centre are holding a Santa’s Workshop.

Queen’s Park Library are holding an Under 5s Christmas Party on Friday, 11th December between 10:30 and 11:30 am.

Of course, the main event is the Queen’s Park Garden’s Winter Fair on Saturday, 12th December, then why not relax in St John’s Church, Harrow Road/Kilburn Lane with a concert from Silk Street Sinfonia?

If you have time beforehand, why not visit a fascinating project over in Croxley Road. Leslie is holding another Straw Bale Office Open House day. It really is worth a look but you must book.

Over that same weekend, there will be a Christmas Fayre at Paddington Rec in aid of the St John’s Hospice. Luckily, it is on both Saturday and Sunday so you don’t need to miss our own event.

Over to the library again, there’s a screening of Minions on Saturday, 19th December between 3pm & 5pm for adults & children.

There’s a Three Churches Carol Service at St Luke’s, Fernhead Road on Sunday, 20th December from 6pm.

Finally, don’t forget you can help the local youth groups by getting your Christmas trees from either St Luke’s Church or Maida Hill Market over the next few weekends.
